AR Rx: Exploring Predictors of Healthcare AR Acceptance

In partnership with University of Southern California Master of Applied Psychology Program, I completed a graduate treatise. My research explored factors that influence consumer acceptance of augmented reality in healthcare use cases.

Background

Augmented reality (AR) is any technology that overlays digital data onto the physical world in 3D. While its application is broad, the technology is fundamentally changing experiences in healthcare, medicine, and wellness. In fact, augmented reality in healthcare is one of the fastest growing segments in immersive technologies.

While the adoption of this technology relies heavily on user acceptance, consumer perceptions about AR specific to the context of healthcare are largely under-researched. Considering the rise of this technology in the healthcare industry and the lack of research, this paper establishes an imperative to explore the research in question – what factors influence consumer acceptance of augmented reality in healthcare use cases?
